# What happens if there's a tie on the leaderboard?

Wondering what happens if you end up with the same score as another user on the [EarnLab](https://earnlab.com/) leaderboard? Here's how ties are handled.
## **Ties Are Extremely Rare**
First, it's worth noting that ties on the leaderboard are highly unlikely. With thousands of users competing and points being tracked precisely, it's very rare for two users to end up with exactly the same score at the end of a leaderboard period.
## **How Ties Are Resolved**
In the unlikely event of a tie, the user who reached that score first will be ranked higher. This means timing matters—if you and another user have identical scores, whoever got there earlier takes the higher position.
## **How to Avoid Ties**
To make sure you secure your spot on the leaderboard:
* Stay active until the very end of the leaderboard period.
